Focus Features Promotes "Greenberg"

Yahoo released an article by the Associated Press on Sunday, about Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which topped the box office with $34.5 million holding the coveted No. 1 spot for three consecutive weekends.

The article goes on to explain the top movies for March, as well as the current top ten movies in the box office. The AP reported on Focus Features latest film, Greenberg. The film is written and directed by Oscar-nominated Noah Baumbach. It stars Ben Stiller, and according to the article he plays “a neurotic whose mean tongue jeopardizes a budding romance with his brother’s personal assistant.” The comic drama was only released in three theaters, earning $120,432, with an average of $40,144 per location.

March is a slow month for films, and Focus Features had some fierce competitors, including Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, and The Bounty Hunter to name a few. This is a huge accomplishment for Focus Features and the film.

Furthermore, it is safe to assume that Focus Features is doing something right by promoting Greenberg.

In fact, they are doing a great deal of correct public relations tactics. The site has reviews on the film with insight from prestigious news organizations such as The New York Times, USATODAY, the Wall Street Journal, and several others. The significance of these highly acclaimed news organizations makes an impact on the audience. The site even includes lift out quotes as another impact tactic, with the positive remarks and recommendations for Greenberg.

Focus Features did a fantastic job using public relations to promote the movie Greenberg. The site not only included reviews, but the synopsis, articles, list of cast and crew, videos, photos, and community links. This would qualify as newness, human interest, and significance. The movie has just been released, along with the reviews for it. Those who visit the site can subscribe to Focus Features with multiple networking sites. In addition, the Q&A with Baumbach and Jennifer Jason Leigh fall under human interest.

Welcome to my Focus Features Blog!

Hi, I'm Rachel Murphy and I am a college student majoring in public relations, and journalism with a minor in film. I have always enjoyed films. This began when I saw my first film in 1989, Walt Disney’s “The Little Mermaid." When watching a film there is a sense of escapism, you identify with the characters, and feel empathic towards their situation.
If you can name your favorite film, many people are responsible for that attainment. That film is your favorite because of all of those who worked on it including the director, writers, actors, and certainly from the movie production company that agreed to work on the film.
The motion picture production distribution company I will blog about is Focus Features. They are a worldwide company committed to bringing moviegoers the most original stories from the world’s most innovative filmmakers.
Focus Features is a part of NBC Universal, which is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies. I will explore the tactics and strategies Focus Features executes, in an effort to evaluate the company.

I have a lot to say so make sure to read, and I will continue to keep you updated on Focus Features.
